This blog was created for the purpose of documenting some of the happenings in Haiti as experienced by my father-in-law Neal Peterson. Neal is the manager of Deseret Transportation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is one of thousands of church employees and volunteers who have traveled to Haiti in order to offer help and aid to the victims of the 7.0 earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010.

Valentine's Day in Haiti

Updates from Neal:
"I tried to call tonight to wish my bride a happy Valentine's day but all the circuits were busy.I tried to watch the winter olympics but NBC blocked them from being broadcast over the internet in Haiti. I thought it was so ironic because I wanted to see the music remake for Haiti called "we are the world".The one good thing about today was being with the saints in the Central Ward. Being connected through the gospel is important to them and soothing to me. Note to self, they sang the hymns on key by memory without a piano or an organ.Three new doctors and two psychologists came in today to help. They are really needed.I cooked dinner so we ate potato pearls, turkey chunks, and chili. The employment specialist found a stash of M and M's. We ate them in celebration of valentines and carnival in preparation for lent."

Yesterday, they were able to get a video projector with a copy of "Forever Strong." They ate peanut butter sandwiches and drank mango juice. Oh yummy! After the movie, Mama who's picture is in an earlier post taught them how to sing "As I Have Loved You" in French.

Unloading the food truck. There is no loading dock and no forklift. They rely on their own strength and work all day long in 90 degree weather. If only I had that kind of work ethic. . .
